Offering exceptional sites in a prime location, Wooing Tree Estate is being developed alongside the iconic Wooing Tree Vineyard from which it draws its name. Vineyard owners Steve and Thea Farquharson have made the decision to take their award-winning winery in a new direction.
The site on which the vineyard sits is one of the best vineyard locations in the whole of Central Otago for visibility and accessibility. Bounded by State Highway 6 that connects Queenstown with Wanaka, and State Highway 8B, the main artery that connects the entire region with Christchurch to the north and Dunedin to the east.
Although some vines will be relocated to make way for the new development, the existing character of the land will be maintained. The vineyard and its cellar door will also remain on site as a focal point of the development – as will the iconic Wooing Tree itself. An important part of Cromwell history, the Wooing Tree will take pride of place in the centre of the estate; part of a shared green space for the whole community to enjoy. This was vital to the Farquharsons, who envisioned Wooing Tree Estate as more than just a housing development.
Spanning 25ha and offering exceptional sites in a prime location, Stage 1a and Stage 1b of Wooing Tree Estate have been released and comprises 25 lots, ranging from 500sqm–1000sqm.
Baxter Design, the highly respected local firm of landscape architects, has been brought on board as master planners for the whole development, and also to establish a design language for the homes at Wooing Tree Estate. Baxter Design have been responsible for many high-end residential and urban design projects throughout Central Otago, including Blanket Bay, Millbrook, and Queenstown’s Village Green, as well as winning a recent ‘Outstanding Design’ award for the new Cromwell Town Centre Upgrade.
The targeted title settlement date for Stage 1 is February 2021. Consent for Stage 1 of Wooing Tree Estate was granted in February 2020. Initially, Stage 1a and Stage 1b has been released, Stage 1c is subject to consent and is anticipated for release later this year. Engineering approval of the design and construction of civil works was lodged in May and processed in June 2020. The aim is to be onsite and under construction soon.
