Harcourts Cromwell Twilight Golf Is A Hit

Eight years ago, Harcourts Cromwell teamed up with the Cromwell Golf Club to sponsor a social night and encourage people to ‘give golf a go’ for the first time.

Now Twilight Golf still kicks off every Thursday evening during daylight savings summer hours — and with so much engagement, player numbers have reached capacity.

Each week 50 teams of four tee off from 3pm and play nine holes.

Harcourts Cromwell agent Ken Ludemann says the evening is always very social and fun golf, not to be taken too seriously.

“Harcourts loves to be involved in community initiatives and this perfectly fits the bill,” he says. “It’s about giving people the chance to play golf for the first time and have some fun. The evening is open to players of all levels.

“There’s always heaps of laughter, a lot of hilarity coming from the course, which is fantastic because that’s how you know people are clearly enjoying it.”

Harcourts’ sponsorship of the weekly event means players only have pay $5 per person each week, and there’s no membership requirement. Teams commit to play each week of the season but a much smaller commitment than other tournaments so it’s perfect for first timers and beginners.

“It’s an easy way to get started with golf, at a low initial cost” says Ken

“We have players from 14-year-old school kids right up to 75-year-olds, all out there giving it a crack and having a great time.

“Harcourts sponsors the prizes, so we have team and individual player winners each week and a grand prizegiving at the end of the season.

The Clubhouse and Black Rabbit Café also stay open after Twilight Golf finishes, adding to the very ‘social’ element of golf.

“It’s a great place to finish your evening with dinner and drinks with your mates.”

Local legends are big fans of Cromwell’s Twilight Golf. Well known Southland pharmacist Bernie McKone, who received a New Years honour this year, is a regular at Twilight Golf as was Sir Brian Lochore before he passed away. Lady Pam Lochore always gets a game or two in whenever she’s down.

The last Twilight Golf for the season is being held on Thursday March 23rd. If you want to give golf a try, watch out for the advertising for the 2023/2024 season. Spaces are limited so get in quick!
