Harcourts renews sponsorship of Otago Rugby

Harcourts Otago is delighted to announce it has once again confirmed sponsorship of Otago Rugby for the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup Championship.

We’ve been involved with Otago Rugby for several years now and, as a Major Sponsor, we’re proud to support the club and the development of youth and grassroots rugby throughout Otago.

As part of our sponsorship, we’re offering exclusive benefits to Otago Rugby members when they choose to sell their home or property with Harcourts anywhere in the Otago region.

One example of our help in community rugy was our recent Harcourts Medal ceremonies. We awarded young players around the region with the Harcourts Medal for displaying admirable teamwork, respect, dedication and a sense of fair play throughout their season. They got the chance to meet Otago Rugby players and were invited to join an exciting All Blacks skills session at the end of August.

The season kicks off on Thursday 17th August with Otago Rugby travelling to North Harbour in the first game of their 2017 Mitre 10 Cup Championship campaign, and they are ready to go all the way this year.

To come so close to winning the championship last year, the goal for Otago now is to step up and claim the 2017 title.

“We feel confident,” says Head Coach Cory Brown. “Performing well and getting results last year is great motivation for us and all our players have been working hard to improve their game. We’ve had a strong pre-season.”

The majority of the 2016 group returns along with some exciting new signings including talented Fijian Vilimoni Koroi and Club Rugby star Josh Ioane.

“Several of our boys have also impressed in their debut Super Rugby season,” says Cory. “Fletcher Smith, Dillion Hunt, Sio Tompkinson, Sekiona Pole and Michael Collins have all done extremely well. It’s awesome for Otago.”

Otago Rugby has also strengthened its backroom staff with Tom Donnelly and Lee Allan joining the coaching team. But, as Cory says, the competition remains fierce.

“It’s going to be extremely close and I expect to see some great rugby being played. Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Manawatu, Bay of Plenty, Northland, Southland and Otago are all capable of winning it.”

“All our players love playing for the Golden O and feel a real connection with the wider community. Come and see them put on the jersey and fight for Otago this season.”

“It was with great pleasure that I accepted a coaching role with Otago: this region has given me so much that I now call it home. Things have changed a lot since I first arrived in the Deep South with a suitcase to enjoy the student life and try to play a little footy on the side. I’m returning with a wife, two kids and I’m hugely excited to get back into the community and help Otago progress both on and off the field this season.”
