Alexandra - Piquing Out Of Town Interest
In the heart of Central Otago, Alexandra boasts world-class cycle trails, delicious eateries, local orchards, spectacular scenery and premium wineries and vineyards. So, we’re not surprised it’s become a bit of a hotspot for North Island buyers.
Out of town interest
Harcourts Alexandra sales manager Andrew Little says he’s seen a clearly defined influx of buyers from the North Island.
“We’ve seen more interest from out-of-town buyers this year than we have from locals,” says Andrew.
“We know we’ve got a great spot here in the heart of Central Otago, and clearly the word has got out!
“Between January and July this year 32% of our buyers came from around the North Island with 23% local. Four years ago interest used to just come from Auckland but now we’re seeing people from Tauranga, Rotorua and other areas.”
Made the move
Buyers David and Pip made the move from Tauranga in September and are ‘delighted’ with their new home.
“We were looking to retire and for a change in lifestyle and so far, everything has exceeded expectations,” says David.
“I’m originally from Mosgiel and I’ve always wanted to get back to the lower South Island, it’s such a special place,” says Pip.
“I’ve missed the distinct Central Otago seasons. Long hot summers, crisp, frosty winters and fresh spring days, each one brings new activities and changes the landscape so drastically.
“And of course, we love the stunning Central Otago vistas, it’s like nothing else in the country.”
It’s not just the beautiful scenery David and Pip are loving but the lifestyle and people.
“There’s so much to do right on our doorstep. We’ve been doing some fantastic walking and biking on the local trails,” says David.
“We’re loving the change of pace. Alex has a lovely small-town feel, our neighbourhood is very quiet and we feel safe and secure. It’s been so easy to get around and everyone is so warm and friendly.
“We couldn’t be happier with move.”
Don and his wife shifted from Auckland to Alexandra back in May. As most of their extended family lives in the area and in nearby Wanaka, they say it was “high time” to get out of Auckland.
“We’re settling in nicely. It’s vastly different, much more peaceful and quiet which we’re loving,“ says Don.
“In Auckland we’d hear the police helicopter overhead all the time and lots of people creating noise. Now we have a lovely house in Molyneaux Estate and we’re enjoying it so much, apart from when winter hit!”
