Wanaka sends support to quake-hit Kaikoura

When support is needed, actions speak louder than words.

That’s why last night Guy and Sheryl Alty of Harcourts Wanaka teamed up with Mons Royale and Dani Kiwi Meier to raise funds for the earthquake-damaged and isolated Kaikoura region.

Guy and Sheryl gathered a crew of local snowboarders, surfers and bike riders to enjoy the newly-released movie Surfers’ Blood from US filmmaker Patrick Trefz.

Together, we raised $1,000 and this will go directly towards helping the quake-hit community in need.

We contacted two of the people worst-hit by the earthquake — Chris and Annemarie Lidgard — to ask where exactly we should direct the funds.

They suggested the local swimming pool: it’s at the very centre of the community. Having it back up and running will offer the people of Kaikoura some normalcy and respite from their post-tragedy adversity.

We are therefore donating the raised funds to Kaikoura Combined Sports Club.

If you’d like to assist with the cause, please give generously to:

  • Bank account name: Westpac Kaikoura Branch
  • Bank account number: 03 1586 0001442 00
  • Reference: New pool

Thank you for your donation. We hope that the people of Kaikoura are able to get their lives back on track quickly.wanaka to kaikoura
