NAIHarcourts is delighted to present Queenstown’s first and only women’s-only gym, Remarkable Women’s Health and Fitness, to the market.
Situated in the Remarkables Park town centre, the gym is positioned to enjoy maximum foot flow and easy parking for its many clients. The welcoming team prides itself on creating a friendly and supportive environment for women to work out with quality equipment, excellent personal training and fun group fitness classes on offer.
Owning and running a women’s gym was a dream of current owner Kim Hollebon so, with the help of her husband Brad, she opened Configure Express Queenstown in 2013. After three years, they decided to break away from the franchise. Cue a rebrand in January 2017 and Remarkable Women’s Health and Fitness was born.
Kim and Brad’s goal is to help women be the best they can be both internally and externally. By creating a genuine, welcoming and supportive environment in which all members feel comfortable, a community has formed around Remarkable Women’s Health and Fitness.
“These are primarily women who are new to the gym scene or wish to train in a supportive, non-threatening setting,” says Kim. “When they join Remarkable Women’s, working out becomes fun, easy and a way of life.”
Clients love the female-only environment, but they also benefit from what has to be the best value gym membership in town. On sign-up, clients receive a goody-bag along with three initial educational tutorials including a well-being assessment, goal-setting and a muscle-activation session. Client motivation is a huge focus: they receive six-weekly reassessments and fitness tests and monthly challenges all year round. More than 25 classes per week are free — not to mention the free child-minding service seven days per week. Hair products, dryers and GHDs are free to use in the changing rooms and protein and apparel is available to purchase.
Kim and Brad are proud to have built a fantastic team at Remarkable Women’s Health and Fitness. With eight female staff members, there’s a clear understanding of the vision of the business and a thorough grasp of the processes involved in keeping everything running smoothly. All trainers are qualified and experienced, offering one-on-one personal training with nutritional advice and support and small group sessions which are a popular and fun way to train in eight- or 12-week blocks.
“Our wonderful ladies are the driving force behind our success,” says Kim.
But credit should also be given to the shrewd business acumen and marketing prowess of Kim and Brad. They’ve engaged in radio advertising and local publication marketing to great response and they’ve formed strong partnerships with other local businesses. Cutting Edge hair salon provides top salon shampoos and conditioners for the gym and Redcurrant supplies scented candles to make the whole place smell great. The gym, meanwhile, gives prizes for school, church and community raffles and sponsors summer and winter netball teams with their logo on uniforms.
“Since rebranding, we’ve gone from strength to strength,” says Brad. “We get several referrals a week from doctors, physiotherapists and health professionals around Queenstown and we’ve built a name for ourselves by caring for our members and getting them the fitness results they want.”
Living in such a transient town, Kim and Brad had to quickly adapt to the demand by creating shorter term memberships and prices suitable for the local market. In terms of growth, the business is still in the early stages. There’s prime opportunity to continue to drive membership — new members will add to bottom line profits while the costs of premises, equipment and staff are relatively fixed.
Put simply, Kim and Brad have intuitively grasped exactly what they needed to do to make a women’s only gym work in Queenstown and with a smart business plan, great staff and strong local awareness, they’ve started a hugely successful business for which future growth is imminent.
